How to take exams

So, you are going to take exams at an art university or art school. How to pass exams? What you need to know in order to give all your best, to show your knowledge with dignity and to establish yourself as a potential student?

Imagine that you have already been enrolled as a student. Imagine that it already exists, only in two or three weeks, that such an option for the future already exists. Now think about what needs to be done so that in two weeks it will be so. You submit documents, become an applicant, two days later your exams begin. Here are some simple tips to help you group up and show your skills and knowledge in drawing, painting, composition and other subjects with dignity. This may seem ridiculous to someone, but believe me, it has been tested in practice. If you learn how to pass exams correctly, then no worries during this process will bother you.

How to pass exams

Tip 1

While you will pass the exams, you should be interested only in it and nothing more. Focus on that. No trips to guests, family quarrels, clarification of relationships, worries for any other reason. Do not be distracted, remember, now your fate, your life is being decided. And it is in your power to take the situation into your own hands.

Tip 2

Gather all the necessary equipment in advance necessary for the work, all the accessories. Take everything that may come in handy. Running for an eraser during a break will not work. To ask other applicants is not good. When collecting tools in advance, do not take new brushes, erasers, etc. What the hand is used to and tested by time is it. Perform all the work on the tablets, it is convenient and solid. So, for each new exam, your tablet should be ready.

Tip 3

Choose in advance for yourself the form of clothing in which you feel most comfortable. You won’t have to change it during the exams. Clothing takes ten percent of attention and convenience. And all attention needs to be concentrated on exams. You can wash it, of course, but go to the exams in the same way.

Tip 4

Be punctual. Go to bed early in the evening. It is important for you to be full of strength, to be in good shape and to avoid psychological overloads.

Tip 5

The following does not apply to those who do not eat sweets. Take plenty of chocolate with you. Chocolate relieves stress, replenishes the body with necessary sugar. Until the exam is over, no one has the right to let you out of the building. And the exam can last up to six hours. So, if you are hungry so as not to think about how you, after the exam, headlong, run to the nearest pizzeria - better eat a chocolate bar.

Tip 6

No need to look at the work of other applicants, look for the pros and cons in them, compare with their work. And what's worse is to discuss them with someone. Do not talk to anyone at all, you came to take exams, get down to business. Do not think that you are worse than others, that someone knows more than you. In most cases this is not the case. If someone talks a lot, asks for advice or gives them himself, this person is experiencing an emotional breakdown, not confident in his abilities. God forbid you to follow his lead. You can forget about your calm. Do not pay attention to anyone, the opinion of other applicants should not be meaningful for you, do your job. After all, someone who really knows something important, namely, how to draw correctly, will never share with a competitor.

Tip 7

It is not necessary to strive to complete the work. Especially if time is running out. If you are not sure that you can complete the work without making a fatal mistake, leave everything as it is. Unfinished good work has more weight and looks much more professional than a "killed" finished one. You have come to show your knowledge, and if you have it, it can be seen at the initial stage. In addition, the speed of execution for each is different, as well as the technique of execution, approach, basic knowledge. If you see a “beautiful picture” of your neighbor, it does not mean that you will see the neighbor himself in the next exam.

What will teachers pay attention to during your work, during the exam? I think this is not unimportant to keep in mind. In this case, I draw attention to passing the exam in the FIGURE, but essentially, by and large, this does NOT change at all. These are (almost) universal rules.

We omit such bad points as: admission “on the beat”, with patronage, even a contract basis, let's imagine that this is nothing. Our education system is clean and transparent, honest as a baby's tear. Nevertheless, teachers will have to work with you further, lead you for five to six years, and they want to educate professionals for their country and for their pleasure.

So, about the exam. In fact, for the exam commission, the annual planned work, they saw thousands of applicants, saw millions of different works. For them, this process is only a couple of busy weeks. And none of them are at all interested in seeing your final result. Only in one case: if the work corresponds to the level and it turned out well done. Good work will stand out among others right away. You will not be isolated during work, if you think that no one will see your work until you finish it, that’s not so. Someone will come to your audience from time to time to come in. Some members of the commission, teachers will come in. It’s more interesting for them to see how you create a drawing. It is important for them to understand, to see, how you conduct the work on the drawing itself. How do you think in the process, what are the steps to complete the drawing. They are interested in seeing and understanding the logic of thinking, which allows you to build the very sequence of their actions. This makes them understand that you know how to think and analyze your actions, that you understand what you are doing and don’t act blindly. This means that it is possible to train you, that you are trained and can easily understand what will be taught to you in the future, when you become a student from the category of an applicant. Well, the professional level of your work determines the degree of opportunity to become at that level of training with which they begin to work with students in this educational institution. For simple reason, you are suitable for studying at the institute or while your level allows you to enter the school only. After all, if you go to college, for example, but you don’t know how to draw, then no one will read the material from the school and only deal with you until you reach the rest. You have to get into the general stream. That's all.

Sometimes it happens that you don’t finish the work, but your thoughts and logical steps, that is, as you understand the picture, will be clearly visible and justified, this will outweigh the scales in your favor. If you like your approach to the work of the commission, you will pass the exam successfully.

Naturally, several people can apply for one study place that you want to take. The ratio can go from 1: 2 to 1:20, maybe more, in different ways. Usually the competition is recognized "on the spot". And here the one whose training level is stronger wins.

Now we will consider in what cases you become in the ranks of those who are stronger:

1. For granted, the level of initial training.

2. Try to work in steps. STEP BY STEP. From the layout of the composition in the sheet, from the search for proportions and perspective ratios, from aligning the volume of the object in the space of the sheet to finding black and white relationships and the final tonal elaboration. Logically arrange all your actions.

3 Try to work as clean and tidy as possible, but work clearly and don't be afraid of anything, otherwise you will be constrained in your movements.

You are one of many, but you can become one among others. Concentrate, be absolutely calm and enjoy the process.
